Microsoft 365

People often think that Microsoft 365 is the same thing as Microsoft Office 365. However, there are some significant fundamental differences. so we’ll start by explaining what those are.

What is Microsoft Office 365

Microsoft Office 365 is the cloud version of the suite of Microsoft’s software applications and collaboration tools.

Some of the programs and tools you will be very familiar with like Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Sharepoint online. Some you may be less clear about such as; Teams, One Drive, Yammer, One Note, Exchange, Planner, Online Meetings (formerly Skype for Business), Sway, Customer Relationship Management Tools and more…

MS Office 365 is a subscription service so the specific programs you have access to, the number of user accounts and the size of your cloud storage space, will depend on which package you choose.

So what is Microsoft 365 then?

Microsoft 365 includes Microsoft Office 365, but also comes with Windows 10 (Microsoft’s latest operating system), Enterprise Mobility and Security.

Microsoft 365 has the ability to manage users and devices via a single console (i.e. adding new user accounts and removing old ones and managing security access) – a key requirement for most businesses.

Like all cloud services, Microsoft 365 is also a subscription service, so the level of functionality depends on the plan you choose.

So what should I be using?

This is where we can help you!

There is a whole range of subscription options which can feel a little overwhelming! When choosing your plan, you’ll want to consider a number of things,

  • How your business communicates – email, chat, video calls, group chat, presentations, social media, meetings
  • What your content is and who it belongs to – your stuff, your team’s stuff and your business stuff
  • The needs of your business – access control, document storage, videos, secure data, team workspaces, version control
Many of the tools have some overlapping functionality and we can help you decipher what will best suit your business and how to get the most out of it.

One thing which we do recommend for the majority of businesses is Teams, so read on to find out more about this feature.
