ITSP are experienced providers of high speed Internet access to business. Unlike many telecommunications companies, broadband from ITSP comes with an engineer to install and configure your network and workstations to it. In addition you will be safe in the knowledge that we will be there to support it on an on-going basis. We never just leave our clients with a box and set of instructions.

Broadband Essentials
The first thing to know about Internet broadband is that the download speed you ultimately get at your office or indeed home is determined by the distance you are away from the the telephone exchange. This distance is in fact the total length of the copper wire that connects your to the exchange and not the distance as the crow flies to the exchange building.

Almost all broadband providers now provide only ADSL Max. This is a broadvand service where the exchange end tries to raise the download speed over of the first two weeks until it settles on a stable maximum speed. This is known as Rate-Adaptive. So thats why many suppliers say they provide up to 8Mb/s download speeds. Again it depends how far you are from the exchange but the nice thing about ADSL Max is that it will autromatically configure your link for the maximum possible speed.

An important factor to consider when chosing a broadband service is the contention ratio. Every telephone exchange has a fixed amount of data bandwidth or capacity that it can send and receive to and from the internet. This has to be shared amoung all the subscribers and that process is known as contention. The system allows for a mix of usage but in simple terms the lower the contention ratio the better the service to the customer. A present the stanard contention levels are 50 to 1 for domestic and 20 to 1 for business users. The effects of contention are most noticeable during busy times. Businesses should opt for a business package with 20:1 contention.
